Acclaimed French Pastry Chef to oversee all dessert creations at Boston’s new high-energy steakhouse!
BOSTON (October 22, 2015) – Boston Restaurateur Nick Varano, proprietor of The Varano Group family of restaurants, including Strega North End, NICO and Rina’s Pizzeria & Café in Boston’s historic “Little Italy,” Strega Waterfront in Boston’s bustling Seaport District, and Strega Prime in Woburn, is pleased to announce the appointment of acclaimed pastry chef Alexandre Bonnefoi to the position of Executive Pastry Chef at the newly-opened STRIP by Strega, an uber-modern, high-energy steakhouse located at Boston Park Plaza.
A native of Marseille in the South of France, Bonnefoi learned essential pastry making skills during a four-year apprenticeship at Patissier de Mazargue in Marseille, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity working under highly regarded Master Pastry Chef Philippe Segond at the legendary Patisserie Riederer in Aix-en Provence, France.

Additional roles held by Bonnefoi include: operating as the Pastry Sous Chef at the Four Seasons resort, Provence at Terre Blanche, in Tourrettes, France, whose restaurant Faventia, earned a prestigious one-star Michelin rating in 2005; overseeing pastry and confection development at Patisserie Délices des Sens in Lyon, France; serving as Pastry Sous Chef at the exquisite Hôtel Le Bristol in Paris, where he worked directly under Mr. Laurent Jeannin (Pastry Chef of the Year 2009 by Guide Champérard) and oversaw the creation and deliverance of all desserts for Epicure, the hotel’s three-star Michelin rated restaurant (earned in 2009); and Executive Pastry Chef at the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris, where he managed a team comprised of 32 pastry chefs and sous chefs, oversaw the creation and execution of specialty desserts designed for high-caliber events, including Ceremony de César, widely known as the “French Oscars. ”
During his time at George V, Bonnefoi served as the Artistic Director for the desserts presented in the acclaimed cookbook, Le Cinq, which takes its name from the hotel’s two-star Michelin rated restaurant., Bonnefoie frequently conceptualized menus, created custom wedding cakes, and oversaw the innovation and implementation of chocolate and sugar sculptures for all holiday occasions.
